How do
fried foods affect eye health?
Eyesight declines with age, but there are eating habits that can speed up this process.
A
leading ophthalmologist from the United States has warned that one of these
eating habits includes eating a lot of fried foods, which can damage eyesight,
citing Russia Today.
Dr.
Brian Wachler, popular on TikTok, explains that trans fats often found in Fried Foods are linked to the development
of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Fried food is cooked in trans fats, which can raise cholesterol levels, he said.
He
adds that high cholesterol levels
are "associated with age-related macular degeneration and diabetic
retinopathy."

Are The Allowed And Prohibited Foods
According to a study published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology, Dr. Wachler's
suggestion after results showed that those who consumed a high level of
red and processed meat, fried foods, refined grains, and high-fat dairy products
were about three times more likely to develop age-related macular degeneration.

Wachler recommends trying to eat more fruits and vegetables that are full of
vitamin C, such as citrus fruits, tomatoes, and red peppers.
They added: Foods rich in lutein and zeaxanthin, such as spinach and kale, are also associated with a lower risk of age-related macular degeneration.
Alternatively, taking certain supplements that contain vitamin C may slow the progression of age-related macular degeneration.
A
study of a supplement formula called the AREDS2 formula, containing 500 mg of
vitamin C, zinc, lutein, copper, vitamin E, and zeaxanthin, found that some of
those following a diet low in fresh green leafy vegetables.

is noteworthy that age-related macular degeneration does not lead to complete blindness, but it is a condition that
severely affects the central part of the vision.
This condition can cause one eye or both eyes to be affected, and symptoms of the condition include:

- Colors look less bright than before

Dr. Wechler also noted that eating "simple carbohydrates", such as those found in white bread and pasta, is linked to macular degeneration.
